Training Fire in Neshkoro

This was a training fire, a planned burning of a donated house used to train new firefighters and help seasoned fire fighters brush up their skills.

Fire departments from Neshkoro, Redgranite, Wautoma and Dalton practiced in teams of 3 to 5 and worked on attacking fires in various rooms throughout the two story house. Safety officer Michelle Reetz, of the Neshkoro department, kept track of all the fire fighter who went into the building just like it is done during a real fire. As each practice fire was started, dark smoke can billowing out of the windows and turned white as the fire became more intense.

The conditions that these men and women fight fires in takes a team effort; they need a lot of practice and it is pretty hard to do. This team work also includes the guys who get the water to fight a rural fire, the safety officers who have to account for the whereabouts of everyone on site, the officer in charge of the whole scene, and the families of all the fire department personnel.
